I finally did it – I picked up an iPhone today.  After years of talking about it, dreaming about it, praying for it, begging my boss for it, hoping for it…

I got sick of waiting and just did it.  Thank gawd for tax returns.

It seems paradoxical to get one now, at a time when Verizon and AT&T have a full-blown ad war waging across the television screens and radio channels, accusing each other of having the worst networks since wireless communication was invented, but I have good reasons:

  1. AT&T will get better.  They have no choice.  The war has gotten really dirty, and is being waged on multiple sides.  AT&T can’t honestly think their ad campaign will necessarily prove better, especially since their guy isn’t any better than the “Can you hear me now” dude.  And besides, whole AT&T neighborhoods have been going black over a weekend here, weekend there, only to have coverage restored on Monday with 3G instead.
  2. Verizon’s smugness about having the best network ignores the fact that they have the crappiest phone catalog, and that really pisses me off.  Sure, they have the Android.  Great.  Whatever.  How long did it take you bastards to get that one decent looking and acting phone?
  3. I like Apple stuff.  I just do.  I’m not really elitist about it.  It’s like having a thing for redheads, or liking Harleys, or even GM or Ford.

So now begins the great task to get all my favorite apps from my iPod touch to my iPhone, update my contact lists on my laptop & Mobile Me account with all the contact info in my old phone, and plan the most destructive way to eliminate my old Motorola Razor that I can legally carry out.  (I’m thinking back-hoe and abandoned lot, but I am open to suggestions.)

Now:  my mission, should I be able to accept it, is to get up to speed with my iPhone and establish all of my needed things on it, for work and play, so that I can destroy the Verizon phone and not look back.

Please stay tuned, readers.  I hope to get at least one post a week outta this.

Now – back to fixing up my contact lists.

Have fun.

Skåll!!!
