The new Mac OS is weird. Things are almost where I expect them, but not quite…
I keep clicking and then frowning. But it has been a few years since using this type of keyboard.
But it’s so much fun to have to learn things again.
I’ve been setting up this laptop for the past two days now. The first thing was to install Windows Vista.
To install Vista, I had to go to boot camp and create a partition for Vista. The weird thing: it allows you to set a certain amount of space, in my case I set 80 GB, then it starts working after you click Next. That freaked me out. It shouldn’t be able to change the master partition while it’s still running things, but it did. One reboot later, with the Vista install disc in the DVD drive, and install was underway. It went cleanly, but wireless networking, the keyboard, the trackpad, and sound didn’t work properly.
I rebooted into OS X and ran updates. 18 updates, it took 15 minutes and one reboot.
I then rebooted into Vista and there were 48 updates.
48.
Sonuvabeeyotch. I start installing them, and after two hours it reached update #20, then it wanted to reboot. It wanted to reboot, so fine!
After the reboot, it started downloading #21, and got to #38. A damned hour later. Then it wanted to reboot.
So, I rebooted again, and it finished the last downloads. After two more hours.
Of course, it needed to reboot again.
But I need Vista, or some version of Windows on this laptop. For work, and for perverse pleasure.
I didn’t get to bed last night until 05:00-ish. Tonight I’m working on getting Parallels to give access to Windows programs within Mac OS.
I’m running into brick walls.
But at least I can post to this blog with the laptop now.
*hee-hee*
Have fun, readers. I’m going to give 30 more minutes before I have to go to bed. I’m having walkthroughs of apartments tomorrow. I have to be awake.
Skåll!!!
