First off, I like this visual editor that WordPress has.  Very nifty, and it outputs more standards-compliant posts (each paragraph is a real paragraph, not just line breaks inside one master paragraph,) simpler back-end directory structure…

It’s just so non-tech I hafta sometimes stop thinking about something to find it.  Simultaneously delightful and annoying.

The next step is to figure out how to customize the layout, and figure out which (if any) plugins I want or would use.

The customizing seems to be skin-driven, and it’s pleasant that the blogging engine’s methods are published and described rather decently on wordpress.com & wordpress.org.  It uses easy chunks of php to direct the engine to “write a post until # of posts are reached”, then you just place that chunk on the page using standard HTML & CSS.  You can manipulate most chunks of the page this way, so I think it should be only a matter of time.

The plugins?  Well, that requires a little more study.  It’s a big trap to overload yourself with plugins and then not use a single one of them.  I grabbed three that seemed useful – a spell-checker for posts, and two Ajax-related ones that I haven’t quite figured out yet…

Ooh, it’s getting a little late.  Gotta get ready for work.  Have fun, readers.

Skåll!!!
